I am Beth or the Big Blue Mess or just a mess of any color depending on the day. I am also a Texan, which is a random fact, but years of indoctrination within the Texas educational system (yes, despite what you’ve heard, there actually is one – where we learnt countin’ and word stuff) force me to list this as part of my identity. I also think there’s a clause on my birth certificate.
The Big Blue Mess started as a group effort on Blogger involving several friends holding my hand encouraging me to write more. Blame them. They also say things like, “you’re funny!” Like I said before, blame them. Consider this blog as a form of appeasement that you accidentally stumbled onto.
The name came from my ex-husband who used the term to kindly describe one of my beautiful artistic attempts in blue. Bless his little heart, we’ll miss his critiques.
But the name does fairly accurately describe most creative things I do – they’re sometimes messy (euphemism for “disaster”), unpolished, and can almost always stand improvement. That’s my writing and The Big Blue Mess in a nutshell.
I’d like to think the blog, by and large, is a humorous site documenting my day-to-day (or sometimes month-to-month) shenanigans. For the most part that’s true – that’s usually what drives my writing. However, a few years ago my husband, my favorite person, my best-friend, and the person I had been with for 17 years, passed away at the age of 40 which has its own impact on these posts. You’ll see it from time-to-time.
A big thanks to all of my friends who helped make this site happen – who let me pick their brains, who held my hand, and who stroked my ego enough to make me think this was a good idea (see aforementioned blaming of them).
Thank you for dropping by. I’m absolutely humbled that you would do so.
