WE WERE THE #1 FUNDRAISING TEAM IN AUSTIN! GO US!! Whoop! Whoop!

A Jay Walkers first! We’re no longer bridesmaid #7, or that weird relative invited as an afterthought, who we’re not entirely convinced we’re related to, but who could also be a fundraising crasher. Nosirree, we got to be the Bride, or the Groom, or Celebrated Altar VIP. Who cares? We’re #1! WE’RE #1!

And we raised $10,715, more than we’ve ever raised before! GO US!! Whoop! Whoop! Part 2!

Sure, it may not have hurt that I built a chunk of the campaign around picking on another team. All in good fun, of course, and in a very good-natured way, because every team gave it their all to raise awareness and raise funds for a great cause. As you know, I can be both competitive AND appreciate the people we’re competing against. It’s a gift. I know my Mom would be proud. Although, I probably won’t be invited to join their next picnic or team-building exercise unless it’s paintball and I agree to stand undefended in the middle of a field.

Speaking of the bigger picture…

The Austin Out of the Darkness Walk raised $189,885, with 244 teams participating and 2,134 registered walkers. That’s absolutely fantastic! All of us coming together for a worthy cause, working to support suicide prevention, expand access to much-needed resources, educate communities, and fight the stigma that still surrounds suicide and mental health.

That’s why we’re here. While the leaderboard is fun (especially when you’re #1! Go us! Whoop! Whoop! Part 3!), it’s how we’re making an impact that matters more.
